It was a sad Friday morning for Kesha after Justice Shirley Kornreich of the New York State Supreme Court refused to release her from her recording contract with Dr. Luke of Sony.
In 2014, Kesha filed a lawsuit against the producer, whose real name is Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald, claiming that she had been physically and sexually abused by Gottwald soon after she signed with him in 2005. Kesha was only 18 years old ata that time.
Dr. Luke filed a countersuit, stating that Kesha’s allegations were part of a “campaign of publishing outrageous and untrue statements.”
The singer’s motion for preliminary injuction was denied due to lack of medical evidence such us medical records to corroborate the rape allegations.
Judge Kornreich said, “I don’t understand why I have to take an extraordinary measure of granting an injuction,” and claimed that “there has been no showing of irreparable harm.”
Kesha was reportedly in tears as the verdict was announced. Outrage spread over social media as fans gathered outside the Supreme Court in support for #FreeKesha movement.
