Princess Máxima of the Netherlands In 2006 Valentino Couture – Queen Beatrix Abdication State Dinner

Who & What: Heir to the throne, Princess Máxima of the Netherlands and her husband  Willem-Alexander, Prince of Orange, attended  the state dinner hosted by Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands ahead of her abdication in favour of Crown Prince Willem Alexander at Rijksmuseum.

Argentinean born Princess Máxima has been dubbed as the ‘Latin American Queen’ by fans and followers the world over for her personal story and glamorous look.

The couple married in 2002 and have three daughters, Princess Catharina-Amalia, Princess Alexia, and Princess Ariane.

Dress: Ahead of the big crowning and abdication ceremonies in Amsterdam today April 30, 2013, Princess Máxima wore a classic Valentino couture red wine circa 2006 cascading pleated ruffle layered gown at the state dinner hosted by the queen.

What makes this dress an intriguing choice is she first wore it in 2008 to attend Prince Charles 60th birthday celebrations with the exact same shoes.

Royal repeats are nothing new, ask Catherine Kate Middleton she’s renowned for doing so.

For the soon to be queen to wear a classic previously wore dress on her last day as princess at such a high profile international event came as a total surprise to royal watchers in Holland.

Anyhow, we love the accented flower details in the middle, including her Stuart diamond pendant that belonged to Mary Stuart, her Dutch Royal House collection bracelets, and tiara.

Maxima carried a matching red shawl on her arms.

No doubt she will wow us later today at the main ceremonies!
